Anyone out there keep up with the show Girls over the past six or seven seasons?
For me, it was seasons one and two, then a skip to season six. But I’m glad I watched it. Here are my thoughts.

Overall, I think this was a beautiful wrap-up to the Girls series. Though I expected more of a “thing” in the final moments of the show (I always want some big “thing” to happen in finales), I was pleasantly surprised by how much I liked the quietness of it—Hannah deciding to leave the city behind and travel upstate to live in solitude, accompanied by a friend who, not long into it, gets antsy and realizes she may actually be uncomfortable with the quiet. That said, there were some things missing for me—not sure what they are, but perhaps it’s my own discomfort with the girls’ lives remaining in limbo, which reflects my own insecurity of also being in limbo.
- Hannah: Her actions in this episode really completed the loop for me. Her immaturity revealed itself, as it did so many times in the season, but this immaturity was also acknowledged (by Hannah herself) when she handed it to the immature teen who was, in some ways, a younger version of herself.
- Marnie: As I said, I think Marnie may have realized she was uncomfortable with the quiet, but until that point was using Hannah to hide or maybe even escape her own life. When Hannah’s mom challenged her on it (“Are you actually happy here?”) Marnie’s expression and body language exposed her. I’m not unhappy with Marnie for this final episode, but I’ve always had a blah blah blah attitude toward her.
- Shoshana: Perhaps Shosh was the most self aware all along, being the one to finally just say it and cut the cord with all the other women the earliest, but perhaps her actions here were almost selfless in a way that she decided she wasn’t going to bullshit anymore. And yes, I thought it was very “Shoshana” to get engaged to that guy so quickly.
- Jessa: I wanted to root for Jessa throughout the series, but our journey with her was such a true roller coaster, at times I couldn’t keep up—by the end, it was a good ride but I’d probably not be interested in riding it or experiencing that roller coaster again. So for me, good luck and peace out to Jessa(‘s character). I hear she’s lovely in person. But her character had some deep stuff going on, and I always felt a dark tension there. Also, is it implied that she ends up with Adam?
